Behavior:-The modern manager must be sufficiently aware of basic human needs to understand much of the behavior that he or she observes. Manager cannot assume that all the people are alike, or the other people are like him or her. One major commonality as that there is a reason for all behavior.
The manager would do well not to condemn any act as being idiotic, pointless, or senseless. In the eyes of individual, the behavior makes sense.
The manager must seek to understand the forces that energize the behavior. It is the responsibility of the manager to develop programs that will make use of the enormous energy that is within every person.
In summary, the manager who wishes to use the expectancy model of motivation should devote attention to the following activities
- Ensuring that employees have sufficient training to do the task assigned.
- Removing organizational obstacles to proper performance.
- Instilling employee’s confidence concerning capacity to perform.
- Selecting organizational rewards that will meet specific employee needs.
- Communicating clearly the relationship between rewards and performance.
- Administering the reward system in a consistent and equitable fashion so that employees will perceive a relationship between performance and the rewards they receive.
